Sunshine to Surgery

"Above all else, go with a sense of humor. It is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lip is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life."

Great amazing vacation in St. Maarten.
Fabulous 40th celebration for Nathan.
Shitty news about my brain.  Six old lesions grew. Now a total of ten.  Some on dura and some inside the brain.  Consistent with leptomeningenial cancer.  We have to attack the cerebral spinal fluid (csf) directly.  Neurosurgeon will implant an Ommaya reservoir in my brain (see link below).  Intrathecal chemo and Herceptin will be administered directly to the brain once a week every week.  Duration undetermined.  Will receive regular chemo same day with regular chemo schedule.
Freaked out, scared, angry, sad, worried and still positive.  Good reason to believe that the Herceptin with be our miracle.  It has proved to be so far.
Completed my pre-surgical testing today, met surgeon and got medical clearance for surgery on Wednesday.  Surgery on Wednesday.  Should be there at least 36 hours assuming counts are good. Thursdays my birthday :)))))!!!!

And here we go again.  More prayers, more good vibes, more everything please.

xo, E

  27. Healing meditation on its way to you from Canada. I clicked on the video with some trepidation. I'm not good with those things, generally. And, who wants to see a cartoon of your pending surgery, I thought. Nevertheless, that part of it seems so sensible, not terribly scary at all and really smart! Looks like a real game changer in terms of treating these kinds of tumors. I know, chemo in your brain is probably a HUGELY daunting prospect but, you know, I believe you can do this!

  28. As others have said, there are going to be a few steps back as you move forward but keep your faith and determination. Keep working; you are seeing results. Just keep that goal hanging in front of you.

  35. "Shit" was my first response. My second was to pray out loud at my kitchen table - I never pray out loud, for you to be healed. I do have my "happy light" on which helps with the dark days of January. I'm sending my happy light energy your way. I have never met anyone with your will and fight - and I've known my share of fighters of this terrible illness. I celebrate that this birthday is here and my greatest hope is that it is just one more of many, many more to come. Elisa, you are so loved by so many who have never met you but feel like we know you. Watch something on TV today - like "The Sound of Music" et al. Cuddle. It is still today and stay in this day. Tomorrow is tomorrow. It will come in it's own time. This test you keep passing sucks. Let's believe that this one gets an A+ too. The medical info IS very encouraging. Love, prayers ALOUD!, and presence even in absence is with you for I am present with you. Love to Nathan and Sophie.

  47. As I started reading this I said out loud, "Oh fuck, not again". After hearing how upbeat and positive you were a few posts ago, it is so unfair for you to have to battle this monster again, but in what I have read from you from the beginning, you have to be one of the most strongest, kick ass, "I ain't going down easy" women I have ever met. I have not one doubt that between you, Herceptin, Nathan and Sadie, that you will have nothing but good news for us just as before. May you have a wonderful birthday and may the year bring you all the good news you could ever want to hear. Sending love, prayers, good thoughts, good vibes and peace, from Brooklyn, NY. :) Chrisie

  50. Elisa---I actually clicked on the link and watched the video of your upcoming procedure. Nothing like putting the medicine exactly where it needs to be !!! As an eye doc, I can tell you that nothing works as well in controlling diseases of the eye (an extension of the brain) as introducing the medication directly onto or into the organ itself. Wishing you a quick convalescence, and HUGE piece of birthday cake on Thursday.

  58. Much love and many prayers from Alabama. There is nothing funny about this procedure, but I know you had to scoff a bit at the corporate training video music in the background of the procedure video. Maybe Beethoven's 5th would have been a bit more appropriate, it is brain surgery after all! Know that you are very loved and prayed over. May God's healing hand give you unwavering strength and guide the surgeon to fantastic success. Happy Birthday, a few days early!

  110. Hi Elisa, Thinking of you today, on this snowy day in New England. There is a saying,"Time waits for noone." You take each moment in time and treasure it, no matter it being good or bad. It's time we don't get back, so we know just how precious it is. I always try to remember that every minute of every day is worth it's weight in gold because it is time we can spend giving a hug, or getting a hug, or laughing or crying, and making so many memories with those we love. I hope that today you are wrapped in many hugs from those you love. And even though there are many of us you don't know who send you hugs through this blog, we know that those moments that we think of you, are moments in time that are well spent. Keep enjoying many good moments every day.

As you could imagine, my pregnancy was stressful and i was ordered to bed rest.I couldn’t get any treatments for the cancer because i was “with child.” After the birth of my healthy son,i had surgery to remove part of my cervis and underwent radiation treatments, which made me extremely ill –So i have to look to the Internet for my last hope ,then i say a testimony about how DR OLOKUN helped nancy from her problem so i cantacted nancy because there are so many scams on the Internet with her email nanc0147@yahoo.com to confirm if it was true which he is a true healer. , thank goodness.I contacted him imidiately for help,so he cast a spell just like a miracle i was healed.
