Not much upstairs with that one

Thanks to all of you for the well wishes since I shared our wonderful/remarkable/miraculous news. I sat here crying as I read all your comments. It fills our hearts to know there are so many folks pulling for us from all around the world.

So...are you ready for some more good news? I met with Dr. Narayana last Monday. Yes, yes. I should have written last week but give a girl a break. I still have Sadie, Nathan and Griffin to care for. Oh, and there was the Z100 Jingle Ball concert to attend. Huh, Jingle Ball? For New Yorkers, you know what I mean. For everyone else, I'll explain later.

Back to Narayana. He reviewed my now infamous brain MRI. All the lesions were gone. But what about the last one on the left parietal lobe, you ask. Glad to know you're following the storyline. I asked the very same question.
ME: Didn't it grow .5cm?
Narayana: Nope.
Me: Huh? Wait...what are you saying?
Narayana: That lesion didn't grow at all. There was only .5cm LEFT and it was just the slow poke of the group. They all "disintegrate" at different paces.
My rendition of Narayana's explanation: You and I are driving along the autobahn. I hit the gas and leave you in the dust. Yes, my driving fantasies are shifting back in to gear. Zoom, zoom. So we're driving and, although we're on the same highway moving in the same direction, one of us (me) is burning rubber while you are out for a Sunday drive, if that's even possible on the autobahn. Disclaimer: I have never driven on the autobahn nor been a passenger in a car on the autobahn. However, it's the highway everyone refers to when talking about really fast driving, so I figure I can use it, too.
That's what's going on with that very last lesion. It's disappearing but at a slower rate than the other ones. It should be gone any day now.
YOU: What did you just say?
ME: YES...at this very moment, I have NO active cancer in my body. Not one tiny minuscule in any part of my body.

I now claim the title of World Champion Cancer Asskicker. And if ANY challengers want to step up, I will crush you. Uh...I mean, I'm talking about the cancer, not you you. Okay, so maybe I am taking this a little too far, but I do feel like a badass right now. I know I didn't do it alone, but I have the urge to take a victory lap or indulge in a touchdown celebration dance. Not to mention that "Goooooooal" keeps ringing in my ears. Too bad I don't have any brain cancer left. I could blame these thoughts of grandeur on that, but hey, I never was a shrinking violet.

Your story came to me this year when I needed it most. My little boy had just been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and my husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a few weeks later. I was throwing myself a huge pity party. Thanks for helping me realize that we must live life in the present and enjoy what we have today. Both boys are doing great so far and I am thankful for that. I wish you the same this holiday season and always! Enjoy your wonderful family and friends.

  65. Elisa,
You really do ROCK! and so does Nathan and Sadie! I am another complete stranger that has been following your story..I have been inspired everyday. I do know a little of what you have been through...I was diagnosed with Colon cancer last fall at 42, my youngest child was just a year. I was fortunate that it was caught early and I just had to have surgery. My husband was then diagnosed with prostate cancer at 42(yup within a year), but he too was fortunate and only needed surgery. I also watched my father fight a courageous battle with a very aggressive lymphoma. He was in the hospital more than he was out. I understand the fear of a fever, the exhaustion of going in and out of the hospital, the toll the battle takes..You get the jist...that's why you and your family have been in my prayers everyday and will continue to be...YOU are a bad ass!! Enjoy that victory lap!! You deserve it...may the new year be full of more good days than bad for you and your amazing family.

  181. Elisa, I don't know you, but your story touched my heart because last Christmas Eve, we lost my sister to breast cancer. She chronicled her fight in her own blog, which we were able to publish with the help of Lulu.com, before she died. Like you, her cancer started as stage 4 and like you, it spread to her brain and liver. I also know, that without a doubt, my sister found you. She raised a beautiful family and I am convinced she had a hand in your miracle because she wanted you to be with your beautiful daughter! God Bless you from my family and from your secret angel, Fran Herrick.

My mom had terminal, inoperable colon cancer and also received the same diagnosis as you did. I honestly believe her cure was because of prayers and deep faith.

We are so excited for your family and will hope and pray that you may all continue to kick cancers butt. As a 30 year old man who has beat cancer twice and fought crohn's disease that nearly killed me, I know there is hope. Praise God for this wonderful news this Christmas season.

    Psalm 91:14-16
“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
